Welcome to the home page of
Sunali Kumar. I live in College Station, TX where my husband
teaches at the local university. Before moving to Texas, we were in
the Bay area where I loved the weather and the easy availability of
ethnic food and grocery.
A long time ago I used to be a life skills teacher at Meridian school for boys and girls, Madhapur, Hyderabad. I was born and raised in Pune, Maharashtra where I also did my schooling. I earned a BA degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the U.S.
Friends who have known me have told me that I work well with children. I have few inhibitions in the classroom with children, and interact with them at their level. Children treat me as one of them, and I revel in their confidence and trust in me. I came to Meridian seeking admission for my daughter, and stayed back as a Life Skills teacher. Life Skills is the brain child of Rajni, my colleague at Meridian, and she has helped shape the curriculum for the class.
Life skills has been a fun subject to teach. It has been very gratifying teaching the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade children this past year (2011-12). When I joined the 2011-12 academic year, I was thrown into the proverbial lion’s den to teach a fuzzy subject called “skill development,” a name that very quickly changed to “Life skills.” Boy, it has been fun, at times challenging and an overall hugely learning experience for me. The students of the first batch have made me want to continue teaching the same subject this coming academic year (2012-13.)
